YTPMVs (Youtube Poop Music Videos) are the use of samples from pre-existing media to make music that is arranged into a video. YTPMV samples are typically from movies, shows, games, or short moments from music. This can be done as both comedy and as geniuenly good remixes, or a mix of both.
Music covered are typically Videogame Music or Chiptune Amiga music. The reason for this selective use of songs may be because they typically have simpler instruments that are easier to replicate, and that they often have no lyrics. Recently though, I've been seeing a rise in creators using Pop and Hip-Hop music, which is a welcome change!
Not a soul has made money from a YTPMV, it is an artform incentivized entirely by passion. The algorithm does not usually gift YTPMV videos, but that is a good thing. Also, YTPMV is such an intricate artform that it can't be replicated to a point of good quality from generative AI. Someone has tried believe me.
This can be an intro into YTPMVs for people who are just hearing about it now, or people who've seen them in the old days but kinda forgot about them. Note that these aren't my absolute favourites, but ones I think would give the best impression of the medium.
