Listening Log
A log of albums I check out
This will have brief thoughts on albums I didn't give reviews for and if applicable some stand outs. Albums with reviews will have links. If you're curious about scores check my album of the year page
A bit bloated in my opinion, there's just a few good tracks and it really feels like a slog to get through.
134. Music for 18 Musicians - Steve ReichHoly moly was this good. Outstanding lyricism and production. It tested my patience admittedly, but it was so consistently great throughout the entire thing I was never bored.
130. Maxinquaye - TrickyI don't get it.
129. Ambient 4: On Land - Brian EnoCalming.
Like it better than their previous.
127. Songs for the Deaf - Queens of the Stone AgeHad very tempered expectations, I wasn't expecting it to be this bad, I only particularly liked one song, the instrumental "Heat Miser"
125. Dummy - PortisheadWhile I overall had a great experience, I am left with a sense of disappointment. The track ratings on some of these made me expect a lot better, but honestly I wasn't a big fan of everything. The 97 rated track "Glory Box" I only ended up liking mildly, I don't get the raving about it.
Not really a let down despite not liking it as much as Mezzanine, there's some cool stuff here including an odd but fitting cover of William DeVaughn's "Be Thankful for What You've Got"
This is a cool, primitive sound for the avalanches that reminds me of beastie boys with the punk inspired raps, but it's nothing special.
122. Mezzanine - Massive AttackVery dystopian sounding and I love the range of vocal performances here. Really great.
121. We Will Always Love You - The AvalanchesThis one's sad
I liked this slightly better than their previous one surprisingly.
119. Romantic Piano - Gia MargaretI was thinking of the song from the chill guy meme again and after remembering how good it was decided to listen to the album it's on.
The Dog on the album cover is so fitting, what a fun album.
I like the tropical summer vibe to the whole thing. My Favourite songs is the title track.
116. In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country - Boards of CanadaEverything You do is a Balloon is awesome.
113. Syro - Aphex TwinWeak compared to their other stuff, a bit of a disappointment all things considered.
110. The Campfire Headphase - Boards of CanadaI like the tropical summer vibe to the whole thing. My Favourite songs is the title track.
109. Lifeforms - The Future Sound of LondonReally chill and peaceful album, everything flowed together so nicely on my listen.
Only good track was Beep Street honestly
107. Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks - Brian EnoListened to this while writing, atmosphere is nice here.
Disappointing, the title track is cool tho.
Favourite track is Peso
103. Superfly - Curtis MayfieldFreddie's Dead and Little Child Runnin' Wild are great. This whole album is pretty nice.
After not particularly enjoying his previous two albums, I was surprised by how much I liked this one. I'll probably give Rodeo some relistens then.
101. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers (Moanin') - Art Blakey & the Jazz MessengersFirst track is pretty good.
100. Brilliant Corners - Thelonious MonkSo peaceful.
098. Days Before Rodeo - Travi$ ScottI was going through a lot during this day and the day before. These albums (this and the previous one) only ensentuated that sadness. Amazing though.
I like the more orchestral style ambient here, sets it apart from others I have heard.
095. drukQs - Aphex TwinMy second favourite twin album, the mix of the piano impressionist songs with the awesome Drill and Bass is cool.
His weakest soundtrack of the UTDR canon, still good though.
Nice. I think it feels a bit incomplete, like there could be cycling songs sort of like minecraft because all you hear in the game for the most part is 'Click'.
079. The Winter Ray - Natural Snow BuildingsThis was a crazy listen.
Think this took a fall off near the 2nd half, there's some good stuff here though.
Awesome live performances, the lack of certain guest features is sad but understandable.
069. Music for the Jilted Generation - The Prodigy'Left to Bloom' reaches C418 levels of greatness
Everytime I listened to this I fell asleep, not because it's boring it just works really well when you're tired. I like this better than Alpha
"Break" really helps me get through the toughest days. I don't think it's possible to not smile listening to that song.
I think this started my bi awakening. Love you Bonito!
This ended up in my youtube recommendation it's so sweet omg!
028. World is Yours - MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGSHate to say it but I don't understand the love towards this one. I only liked 'Wouldn't it be Nice'.
Honestly just listened to this for completionist reasons, there's no point of this thing but it's cool. Highlight is the german version of Helpless Child simply because the base is already amazing.
Cried to this lol, I don't think I've done that to an album before so that's pretty special
Didn't really fw this one.
'San Tropez' and then 'Echoes', the rest is so whatever.
A last hurrah from Tribe that has a lot of emotional weight to it. RIP Phife man.
